I have extensive experience of designing tartans both for my previous employer and also with Taffled Threads. Whatever the occasion, we can collaborate to create something special.

There are many reasons why you may choose to design your own tartan. It could be for a family or business, to celebrate a person or special event. Whatever the reason each design is unique and personal and will tell your story. Once created, your tartan will be entered into The Scottish Register of Tartans, where it will be listed and held for generations to come.

Package includes:

• Initial consultation - The process begins with the idea behind your tartan. Your unique story will be told through the colours and threadcount we use ensuring that your tartan is personal to you.

• Tartan design – I will produce a variety of up to 6 designs which will be emailed to you for your approval. Amendments can be made at this stage and tweaked until you are completely happy with your design. I will post a copy of the finalised design to you along with the yarn samples used to help you visualise how the fabric will look once woven.

• Tartan Registration – Although there is no legal requirement to register your tartan, it is advisable to do so. By registering your tartan with The Scottish Register of Tartans you are ensuring that no other tartan will replicate yours in either name or pattern. Upon approval a woven sample of your tartan will become part of the government archive and you will receive an official certificate of registration.

• Final Stage – I can provide in house services for a variety of handwoven tartan products- scarves, throws, cushions, shawls, lampshades, accessory bags, mobile phone/glasses cases and keyfobs. Should you require kiltweight or longer lengths of mill woven fabric, I can source a Scottish manufacturer.
